80% of Learning Is Visual: Why Eye Exams Matter
As the new school year is about to begin, it's the perfect time to add an eye exam to your child's back-to-school checklist.
Approximately 80% of learning is visual, making healthy vision essential for not only reading and writing, but also classroom participation, sports, and social development.
Early detection can identify conditions such as lazy eyes, eye misalignment, nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, many of which are most effectively treated when caught early.
The Ontario Association of Optometrists recommends eye exams at:
- 6 months
- 2-3 years
- Every year after age 3
The good news is that OHIP covers annual comprehensive eye exams for children and youth under 20 with a valid Ontario health card.
